Stabbing Victim Found Dead in Vehicle Crash

McDowell County -- August 5, 2024: McDowell County Sheriff's Office is now confirming a female was in the vehicle

with Ryan Ricky Houston that crashed on Interstate 40 last Thursday night.

The Sheriff's Office states the female in the vehicle was Malerie Lauren Crisp, 41 y/o of Asheville. The Sheriff's Office also confirms that she died from stab wounds, following an autopsy conducted this date in Winston Salem by the state Medical Examiner's Office.

"This is a terrible tragedy for several communities and families. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all those involved," states Sheriff Ricky T. Buchanan. "I appreciate the collective efforts from our local, state and federal law enforcement partners on this ongoing investigation."
