Collision With Tractor Trailer

Asheville, NC  Asheville Police Department Patrol Officers are continuing to investigate a fatal motor vehicle collision that occurred early Sunday morning on Interstate 40 West.

APD Patrol Officers responded to a motor vehicle collision near the 54 mile marker of I-40 West around 2:33 a.m. on April 7. The preliminary investigation indicates a 2024 Tesla operated by Andrew Dean Justiniano of Fletcher was traveling east in the wrong direction on I-40 West, and collided with a 2022 Freightliner that was traveling westbound on I-40.

Justiniano succumbed to his injuries on scene; next of kin has been notified. The driver of the Freightliner was uninjured. While officers worked the scene, I-40 West was closed for five and a half hours
