Officer Involved Shooting Haywood County

Haywood County -- April 7, 2024: Haywood County Sheriff's Office Immediate Release: On Saturday, April 6,
at approximately 4:50 pm

deputies with the Haywood County Sheriff’s Office responded to a domestic call in the Bethel community. The caller advised our 911 communicators center that the subject was there with a gun. 

When our deputies arrived, de-escalation techniques were employed but did not achieve the desired result, culminating in an exchange of gunfire. No injuries to law enforcement personnel occurred, and the suspect was transported by helicopter to an area hospital. This is an ongoing investigation, and no further information can be released at this time.

As is standard protocol in a situation such as this, the NC State Bureau of Investigation has been requested to conduct the investigation.
