Asheville -- April 3, 2023: At the Biltmore Estate on Saturday, one person perished when a tree fell over
due to strong winds.

Officials from Biltmore said that on Saturday afternoon, after a strong wind gust, a tree fell on a worker.
The worker was killed when the tree struck him.

Due to power outages caused by strong winds on April 1, Biltmore Estate was shut down in the late afternoon for the rest
of the day. According to the National Weather Service, some of Saturday's heaviest winds in Asheville occurred around 4 p.m., with gusts reaching about 40–45 miles per hour.
"We are offering assistance to the family at this time and providing support to our employees who are impacted by the death of their friend and co-worker," said Biltmore officials in a statement.

At this point, the employee's name has not been released.  Both Asheville Fire and Rescue and Buncombe County EMS responded to the event.
