Blue Ridge Parkway Road Closure Between MP 261 (NC 16) and MP 269.8 (Phillips Gap)
Blue Ridge Parkway -- September 19, 2024: Blue Ridge Parkway National Park Service: Heads up, Parkway visitors!
There will be a full closure of the mainline motor road between MP 261 (NC 16) and MP 269.8 (Phillips Gap) as we continue our major paving project in NC.
This crucial work is part of a $123.5 million Great American Outdoors Act investment to enhance your Parkway experience, addressing vital infrastructure needs.
What You Need to Know:
-Full Closure: MP 261 to MP 269.8—no cars, bikes, or hikers allowed for safety.
-Detour Route: Follow signed detours via NC 16 and US 221. Access to Doughton Park (picnic area, campground, The Bluffs Restaurant) is open via NC 18.
-Mountains to Sea Trail: Remains open—just be cautious when crossing the motor road.
As construction moves further south this fall, the closure will extend to MP 276.5, at which time the full closure will include milepost 261-276.5. Dates will be announced later this fall.
