WNC --  As the Blue Ridge blooms back to life after a difficult winter and the lingering effects of Hurricane Helene, Western North Carolina is ready to show off its roots—community, resilience, and the sheer joy of living local.

From small-town block parties to world-class festivals tucked into our rolling hills, WNC’s April, May, and June 2025 event lineup is a full-throttle invitation for both locals and tourists to get outside and get involved.

April Awakens: Arts, Markets, and Music

Asheville (Buncombe County) is brimming with activity this spring. The Composting Basics Workshop, art sessions like How to Draw Faces the Paul Choi Way, and Community Engagement Markets at Maple Crest and Deaverview Apartments are all opportunities to connect, learn, and grow. And don’t miss Sturgill Simpson’s back-to-back shows at the Explore Asheville Arena Arena in May—tickets are going fast.

In Murphy (Cherokee County), the Spring Festival on May 3 brings a celebration of local flavor with music, crafts, and community charm. Meanwhile, Cherokee hosts the Cruise the Smokies Spring Rod Run in late April, the Bike Festival in early May, and a special Visitor Celebration Day on May 17 featuring traditional Cherokee culture and live demonstrations.

Hendersonville delivers seasonal staples with its Garden Jubilee in May, transforming downtown into a floral fantasy filled with gardening vendors, expert advice, and plant sales.

Festival Fever: May Takes It Up a Notch

In Sylva (Jackson County), April ends strong with the Greening Up the Mountains Festival on the 27th—a street party that pairs craft vendors and live music with family-friendly fun.

Wine lovers can toast spring at the Yadkin Valley Wine Festival on May 17 in Elkin, while bluegrass fans will be in heaven during Wilkesboro’s MerleFest from April 24–27—a legendary gathering of Americana greats.

And don’t forget the ongoing Concerts on the Creek series in Sylva, kicking off May 23 and running every Friday through August. Local and regional bands will have Bridge Park hopping every week.

June's Main Events: Music, Motorcycles, and Mountain Vibes

June hits its stride with the return of the Cherokee Bluegrass Festival (June 5–7) at Happy Holiday Campground. Bluegrass fans from across the region gather for three days of pickin’, grinnin’, and community.

Maggie Valley shifts into high gear with the Thunder in the Smokies Motorcycle Rally (June 27–29)—the biggest rally in the region, complete with scenic rides, bike shows, and live entertainment.

In Marion, June is all about heritage and flavor. The NC Gold Festival (June 6–7) celebrates the state’s golden legacy with history tours, demonstrations, and children’s activities. On June 7, things get real Southern with the Livermush Festival, where this local delicacy gets the spotlight it deserves—served with a side of live music and downtown fun.

Canton hosts the Cold Mountain Music Festival (May 30–June 1), a genre-blending celebration of nature and sound, while the Mount Airy Fiddlers Convention on June 6–7 brings old-time traditions back to life with music competitions and campfire jams.

Why It Matters: Rebuilding Through Celebration

After the storms—literal and figurative—events like these do more than entertain. They rebuild what we sometimes forget we need most: connection. They support small businesses, encourage tourism, and foster pride in the unique culture of each town, from Murphy to Marion and everywhere between.

If you're a local, get out there and show support for your neighbors. If you're a visitor, come see why so many are falling in love with the mountain life. Western North Carolina isn’t just back on its feet—it’s dancing, singing, and serving up something special nearly every day of the week.

See you out there. Bring a lawn chair and a neighbor.
