Buncombe County Sheriff's Office Investigate Candler Shooting

The Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting that occurred

last night in Candler, NC just before 10:00 pm (12/13/2024, Friday night). Deputies from the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to 33 Maria Lane in Candler, NC in reference to a report of a person with a gun call. The original call stated that neighbors were fighting, and they were possibly shooting at each other. The deputies were also informed that one male had been placed into a white SUV which fled the scene.

While responding to the call, deputies observed and stopped an SUV matching the description of the vehicle that had fled the

scene of the incident. The SUV was spotted traveling along Smokey Park Highway. Upon initiating an investigative traffic stop, responding deputies found a male individual lying in the backseat of the SUV. Further observation by the deputies revealed the male subject was injured and had blood on his clothing and that he was likely a victim involved in the shooting.

Deputies determined that the victim had a gunshot wound to the thigh area of his left leg and rendered aid until EMS arrived. The victim was taken to Mission Hospital with what appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries. According to Sheriff Miller, deputies have received information that may help identify a suspect in this incident. Sheriff Miller stated that this appears to be an isolated incident and that there is no present threat to the community.
