Brevard/Transylvania County -- For Immediate Release October 13, 2023:

The Brevard Police Department, jointly with the Transylvania County Sheriff’s Office, is seeking information on a fatal hit-and-run motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian who was struck and later succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the vehicle which struck the pedestrian fled the scene.

The collision occurred on Tuesday, October 3rd, at approximately 9:34 p.m. in front of the Tidal Wave Car Wash and CVS in the southbound lanes of Asheville Highway.
The pedestrian, identified as Roy Lee Waters, age 50, of Brevard, North Carolina, was transported from the scene to a local hospital but succumbed to injuries on Friday, October 6, 2023.

The investigation has revealed that Mr. Waters was struck by a gray or dark silver SUV, potentially a 2011 or 2012 Dodge Durango. The vehicle should have damage to the front end and possibly the right front quarter panel. The vehicle fled, traveling southbound toward downtown Brevard.

Still, images from the surveillance video showing the vehicle which struck Mr. Waters are included in this press release.

Investigators are also seeking information on the driver and or owner of the white van (images 3 and 4), who was immediately behind the striking vehicle and may have witnessed the collision.
