Asheville -- May 15, 2023: Officers from the Asheville Police Department were assaulted while trying
to apprehend a man with an outstanding warrant.

Around 6:36 p.m. on May 13, APD Patrol Officers spotted Devon Lewis Rayshawn Whitmire, who was
wanted on an active charge ofcommunicating threats. The location was near the 310 block of Livingston Street.

When Whitmire was contacted by police, he initially gave them the wrong name. Officers attempted to take Whitmire
into custody upon additional confirmation of his identity, but he resisted.  One officer was injured as a result. The officer received treatment at the hospital that day and was then released.

-Malicious Conduct of a Prisoner x3
-Resist/Delay/Obstruct
Whitmire was booked into the Buncombe County Detention Facility under an $85,000 secured bond (or $8,500 to a bondsman) issued by the magistrate.
