Man Arrested in Shooting of Buncombe County Deputy

Asheville -- May 9, 2023: Criminal charges have been brought against Weaverville resident
Ryan Ricky Houston, 40, in connection with the shooting that occurred on Sunday morning outside
the Buncombe County Detention Facility.

The Asheville Police Department detained Mr. Houston outside Mission Hospital.

Mr. Houston remains in custody at Mission Hospital and is charged with the following:

• Attempted First Degree Murder
• Assault Inflicting Serious Bodily Injury
• Two counts of Assault LEO/PO With Firearm
• Injury to Personal Property
Additional charges are forthcoming.
