McDowell County -- April 19, 2023: McDowell County Sheriff's Office reported a number of people
arrested on methamphetamine charges.

April 13, 2023
Nebo Man Charged with Methamphetamine

Detective Matthew Smith with the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office Community Impact Team charged 28-year-old Joseph Lee Roland with felonious Possession of Methamphetamine. Roland was issued a $5,000 secured bond.
On March 23rd, Detectives stopped to assist a stranded motorcyclist. The driver, identified as Roland, had two outstanding warrants and was placed under arrest. A search of him turned up methamphetamine.

April 13, 2023
Spruce Pine Man Charged with Trafficking Methamphetamine

Detective Richard Pittman with the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office charged 31-year-old Steven Michael McGee with felonious Trafficking Methamphetamine. McGee was issued a $75,000 secured bond.
On April 4th, Deputies from the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office assisted Officers from the Old Fort Police Department with a traffic stop of McGee’s vehicle. A search turned up trafficking amounts of methamphetamine.

April 14, 2023
Couple Charged with Methamphetamine

Detective Matthew Smith with the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office Community Impact Team charged 31-year-old Roger McKinley Ward with felonious Possession of Methamphetamine and felonious Possession with Intent to Manufacture, Sell and Deliver Methamphetamine. Ward was issued a $15,000 secured bond.
Detective Smith also charged 25-year-old Eva Brooke English with felonious Possession of Methamphetamine. English was issued a $5,000 secured bond.

On March 22nd, Detective Smith was patrolling the area of NC 226 South. Detective Smith observed a vehicle with numerous traffic violations and initiated a traffic stop. The driver was identified as Ward and the passenger as English. Deputy Burnette and K9 Kessy assisted with the traffic stop. Kessy alerted on the vehicle for the presence of narcotics. A search turned up methamphetamine.

April 15, 2023 

Marion Man Charged for Drug Crimes

Detective Matthew Smith with the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office Community Impact Team charged 48-year-old Fred Andrew Banks III with felonious Possession of Methamphetamine and Simple Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Substance. Banks was issued a $10,000 secured bond.
Detectives were patrolling the area of the US 221 S Bypass when they initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle for numerous traffic violations. A passenger, identified as Banks, had outstanding warrants out of Buncombe County. A search turned up methamphetamine, fentanyl and oxycodone.
