Buncombe County -- April 4, 2023: The Buncombe Board of Commissioners has made it a priority to pursue
affordable housing on County-owned properties.

As the site selection procedure progresses, they would like to hear from our community. According to Matt Cable,
manager of the community development division, "The County is committed to building affordable housing and has identified various properties it owns that have affordable housing development potential."

Following a preliminary assessment of numerous County-owned properties in March 2023, the Buncombe County Board of Commissioners gave the following three locations top priority for the construction of affordable housing: The County has partnered with UNC School of Government's Development Finance Initiative (DFI) to help meet the target of working with qualified private developers to create at least 1,500 affordable rental units for low- and moderate-income households by 2030. The three locations are 30-80 Valley Street, 50-52 Coxe Avenue, and 180 Erwin Hills Road (portion).

Mark April 12 on your calendars as the DFI will be hosting the meetings and launching an online survey at that time.
