Man Arrested and Charged in Fatal Hit-and Run
Asheville Police have announced the arrest of Calvin Tyler Dion, a resident of Mars Hill,
in connection with a fatal hit-and-run incident that occurred on March 1, 2023.
Dion has been charged with second-degree murder, felony hit-and-run, reckless driving, speeding, and failure to reduce speed.
According to the police report, 28-year-old James Shearon was riding his bike along Grove Street when he was struck by a vehicle. Video from a security camera shows a car fled the scene, leaving Shearon with serious injuries. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries.
After conducting a thorough investigation, the Asheville Police were able to identify Calvin Tyler Dion as the suspect. Dion was taken into custody on March 27, 2023, and charged with a range of offenses including second-degree murder, felony hit-and-run, reckless driving, speeding, and failure to reduce speed.
Dion is being held on a $552,000 secured bond.
