Henderson County -- August 31, 2022: The Henderson County 911 Center received a complaint of a female crying for aid followed by the firing of a pistol at 2821 Howard Gap in

the Clear Creek Community on August 29, 2022, at about 9:07 p.m.
When Henderson County Sheriff's Deputies arrived at the property to do a health and welfare check, they could hear what appeared to be a domestic conflict taking place there. When HCSO deputies got to the house, they encountered Jeromy Rand Swaringen, 39, of Hendersonville, who was carrying a gun. Swaringen instantly started firing a gun at the deputies after rejecting their verbal orders to do so.
The responding deputies exchanged shots and managed to capture Swaringen.
Deputies provided Swaringen with rapid, life-saving first assistance, and he was then taken by Henderson County EMS to Mission Hospital in Asheville for treatment of his wounds.
Swaringen was taken to the Henderson County Detention Center after receiving treatment and being discharged from the hospital. There, he was booked on three (3) counts of felony assault with a firearm on a law enforcement officer and one (1) case of misdemeanor child abuse.
Swaringen is still detained in Henderson County under a $220,000.00 secured bond. Additional charges may be brought as a result of the ongoing investigation.

Editor's Note:* A criminal charge is an accusation, by law, a person accused of a crime is innocent until proven in a court of law.
