McDowell County Sheriff's Office Fugitive sex offender arrested

McDowell County Sheriff's Office -- Fugitive sex offender arrested. After more than a year on the run, a convicted sex offender is back behind bars.

Robert Evans Cunningham Jr., 59, whose last known address was Clear Creek Road in Marion, is charged with a felony sex offender registry violation (failure to report new address). He turned himself in at the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office Monday evening, March 18.
Investigation shows that Cunningham left his Clear Creek Road residence on Oct. 31, 2017, and did not register a new address, which the law requires within three business days of the move.
Cunningham was convicted of two counts of taking indecent liberties with a child in McDowell County on June 30, 1994. He was sentenced to eight years in prison, was released on May 3, 1999 and registered as a sex offender on May 10, 1999.
