CARRBORO, N.C. (AP) — Restaurants and farmers in a North Carolina town known for arts and cuisine are joining forces to offer residents safe and healthy dishes while also supporting food-service jobs threatened by COVID-19.

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — North Carolina’s restaurant and hotel operators pleaded Tuesday for state financial aid and tax relief as closings and travel restrictions from the new coronavirus have thrown more than 370,000 of their employees out of work.

CARROLLTON, Ala. (AP) — As the coronavirus spread across the United States, workers at the lone hospital in one Alabama county turned off beeping monitors for good and padlocked the doors, making it one of the latest in a string of nearly 200 rural hospitals to close nationwide.
