Man Faces Additonal Charges in Shooting

Buncombe County -- December 20, 2024: Buncombe County Sheriff's Office Press Release:  Investigators with the

Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office filed additional charges

against a man for shooting a woman in Candler. Lee Burgess Wheeler was initially charged with Assault with a Deady Weapon with Intent to Kill. After further investigation from our Detectives and consulting with the District Attorney’s Office, Wheeler is now facing the following charges:

-Attempted First Degree Murder
-First Degree Kidnapping
-Assault on a Female
-AWDW Intent to Kill

On Tuesday, December 10 th, Deputies responded to a gunshot wound at 162 Marathon Lane in Candler around 8:30 p.m. The female victim sustained one gunshot wound. She was taken to Mission Hospital with non life-threating injuries. Lee Burgess Wheeler was arrested and taken into custody. He’s being held in the Buncombe County Detention on $200,000 secured bond.
