Bryson City -- August 22, 2024: The small mountain town of Bryson City came alive on August 14, 2024, as

residents gathered to welcome home one of their own, Evy Leibfarth, fresh off her bronze medal win in the women's canoe slalom event at the 2024 Paris Olympics. The celebration was not just a recognition of her athletic achievement but a testament to the deep community ties that have supported and inspired her throughout her journey.

The homecoming event was marked by a parade through the heart of Bryson City, with Main Street and Everett Street filled with cheering locals waving American flags. Leibfarth, who grew up navigating the waters of the nearby Nantahala River, rode atop a Nantahala Outdoor Center raft and bus, embodying the spirit of the region she represents.

In Paris, Leibfarth competed in three events, including women’s kayak one, women’s canoe slalom one, and women’s kayak cross, ultimately securing her bronze medal in the women’s canoe slalom. Her success on the world stage is a source of immense pride for Bryson City, a close-knit community that has been instrumental in her rise to Olympic fame.

Speaking at the event, Leibfarth expressed heartfelt gratitude for the support she received from her hometown. "I had this whole community watching me and cheering me on... It's a lot – but in the most amazing way," she said. Reflecting on her upbringing, she added, "We’re a pretty small town here, right? Not that many people, but we’re loud and we’re inspiring, and growing up here was the best thing that could have happened to me."

The celebration also served as a reminder of the importance of local youth programs, such as those offered by the Nantahala Racing Club, which played a pivotal role in Leibfarth's early development as a paddler. Steve Zarowski, a representative of the club, highlighted how these programs nurture young talent, ultimately leading to remarkable achievements like Leibfarth’s.

Leibfarth's homecoming was not just a celebration of her Olympic success but also a moment of collective pride for Bryson City, Swain County, and the entire Nantahala region. Her achievements underscore the significant role that a supportive community can play in fostering talent and achieving greatness on the world stage.

As Evy Leibfarth continues her journey, she carries with her the spirit of Bryson City, a town that may be small in size but is immense in its support and pride for one of its most accomplished daughters.
