Rutherford County -- July 3, 3034: The Rutherford County Sheriff's Criminal Investigations Division provided an update to the public

on Jack Rodney Short's conviction. In late 2022, the Sheriff's Office began receiving complaints of break-ins in the county's top tier. Throughout the inquiry, Jack Short emerged as the key suspect.

Mr. Short was determined to be on post-release probation for a previous Breaking and Entering charge. His release conditions forced him to wear an ankle monitor. Investigators met with North Carolina Probation and Parole Officers, who assisted in compiling all of the data from Short's ankle monitor. When the investigation was completed, it was discovered that Short had broken into numerous more homes. He was charged and held in detention until a plea deal was reached in December 2023.
Short pleaded guilty in Rutherford County Superior Court to Habitual Felony and Habitual Breaking and Entering.

He is serving a 15-year active jail term.
