Asheville Man Sentenced in Drug Trafficking Case
Asheville -- April 23, 2024: Officers from the Asheville Police Department pulled Steven Daniel Opsahl, over on March 8, 2023, for a traffic infraction
involving an expired registration and inspection. It was then determined that Opsahl had outstanding warrants. When Opsahl was checked into the Buncombe County Detention Facility, 66 grams of methamphetamine slipped out of a plastic baggie that was in his jeans.
Buncombe County deputies stopped Opsahl on March 23, 2023, again for expired registration and inspection violations. This time, six grams of fentanyl were found in Opsahl's car when deputies arrested him for operating a vehicle with a revoked license.
Opsahl 46, pleaded guilty to multiple felony drug charges including trafficking in opium/fentanyl and trafficking in methamphetamine. He will serve 70-93 months in prison and pay a $50.000 fine.
