Asheville/Buncombe County -- February 9, 2024: As part of the BCSO Downtown Initiative, the Asheville Police Department and the Buncombe County Sheriff's Office will begin joint patrols in downtown Asheville on Friday, February 9, from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.

The departments announced on social media this morning.

"APD and BCSO are dedicated to creating a safe and dynamic downtown environment through coordinated patrols. This concerted operation attempts to strengthen law enforcement presence downtown and protect residents, visitors, and businesses.

"The launch of joint patrol efforts between the Asheville Police Department and Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office represents a significant step forward in our collective mission to bolster downtown safety. By working together, we can more effectively address public safety concerns and maintain a secure environment for all," said Mike Lamb, Interim Chief of the Asheville Police Department.

“These joint patrols with APD will serve to reassure our community members that they can feel safe when getting off work at late hours from bars or restaurants or when visiting our downtown area. This partnership means more with less,” says Buncombe County Sheriff Quentin Miller.
