Macon County -- The following is an announcement by the Macon County Sheriff's Office investigation into a shooting that happened Friday:
The Macon County Sheriff's Office is currently investigating a shooting incident that occurred earlier today 1/5/2024 at or around 10:00 a.m. Deputies were dispatched to the Mashburn Branch area in response to reports of gunfire.
Upon arrival, law enforcement personnel discovered one male victim with multiple gunshot wounds. The injured individual was transported to an area trauma center. Emergency medical services were immediately summoned to the scene to provide necessary medical assistance. The affected area has been secured, and the investigation is ongoing.
The Macon County Sheriff's Office is working diligently to gather information and interview witnesses to piece together the events leading up to the incident. The identity of the victims, as well as any potential suspects, is being withheld pending further investigation.
"We take any incident involving violence very seriously, and our top priority is the safety and well-being of our community," said Sheriff Brent Holbrooks. "Our deputies alongside the State Bureau of Investigation are actively working to gather information and ensure a thorough investigation into this matter.
The Sheriff's Office will provide updates as the investigation progresses. One suspect is currently being detained and there is not a known current threat to the community.
