APD Arrest 49 Repeat Offenders in Special Operation

Asheville -- October 30. 2023: Detectives and Officers recently carried out an operation targeting quality-of-life issues in the Asheville downtown area.

During nighttime hours, the Asheville Police Department collaborated with Alcohol Law Enforcement to address areas with high levels of violent criminal activity. The operation targeted repeat offenders engaged in criminal activities. 

The primary emphasis was on the downtown region, but also encompassing many outlying regions, all of which were chosen based on crime analysis and community complaints.  A total of 41 Officers, Detectives, supervisors, and professional personnel participated in the 20-hour operation on a rotational basis. The participants were staff members from almost every departmental division, who worked beyond their regular shifts.

A total of 86 charges were levied upon 49 people. 21 were cited on 25 charges, and 28 were arrested on 52 charges, 12 of which were felonies. Additionally, 9 warrants were served, 2 of which were felonies. Three firearms, one of which was stolen, and an array of drugs were seized during the arrests. There are ongoing investigations related to this operation, and charges on additional offenders may be forthcoming.
