Man Faces 3 Charges of Attempted Murder in McDowell County

McDowell County -- October 4, 2023: The McDowell County Sheriff's Office is currently investigating a shooting incident

 Three people are being treated for gunshot wounds and a suspect has been identified. 

Joseph Andrew Hartwell Jr, a 50-year-old  white male.is under arrest and is at the McDowell County Detention Center. Hartwell is charged with three counts of attempted first-degree murder and three counts of assault with a deadly weapon. Additional charges await.

Authorities say the shooting occurred around 8 p.m. on Jacktown Road. Authorities reported Hartwell's arrest before midnight.
