APD Investigating Fatal Motor Vehicle Accident

Asheville: October 2, 2023: Asheville Police Department's investigation continues into a fatal vehicle accident that

happened Friday.

Around 3:51 pm on September 29, APD Patrol Officers responded to a car accident involving injuries on I-40 West close to the Brevard Road exit.

According to the preliminary investigation, a 2006 Nissan Altima was driving the incorrect way on I-40 West close to the Brevard Road exit, colliding head-on with a Honda Odyssey passenger van before hitting a Ford F150 pickup truck. With non-life-threatening wounds, the Honda Odyssey and Ford F150's two passengers were sent to Mission Hospital.

The next of kin have been notified. Craig Patten Reinfeld, the driver of the 2006 Nissan Altima, passed away from his injuries on the scene. He was 40 years old.
