North Carolina -- July 25, 2023: Tuesday, military and local officials said that three Marines from Camp Lejeune were found dead in a car stopped near the North Carolina base on Sunday.

Pender County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a report of a missing person at about 9 a.m. and found the three Marines dead inside a private car at a gas station in Hampstead, N.C., the sheriff's office said in a statement Tuesday. The Marine Corps said that the three people who died were all Lance Corporals who were all part of the 2nd Marine Logistics Group at Camp Lejeune's Combat Logistics Battalion 2.

Pender County Sheriff's Office, the Marine Corps said that the Naval Criminal Investigative Service are working together on the investigation into the deaths.
