Waynesville Man Found Deceased in Vehicle Identified

Waynesville -- July 14, 2023: WNCTimes continues to follow a story on the death of a man in Waynesville, July 13, 2023. Waynesville Police have now identified the man, found deceased inside a vehicle that was parked on Hazelwood Avenue next to a train track.

Below is the announcement by the Waynesville Police Department on Thursday:

Waynesville, N.C. - Upon the notification of the family, the WPD is releasing the identity of the individual found deceased yesterday afternoon. Scott Caldwell, 61 years of age, of Waynesville was found deceased in his vehicle after Officers arrived to check on his welfare.
The investigation thus far has provided no evidence of foul play. In addition, nothing was found that would lead Detectives to make a determination on the cause of Mr. Caldwell’s death. Detectives will now work with the Medical Examiner and wait on the toxicology results in order to determine the cause of death.
