APD Charge Juvenile in Juneteenth Shooting
Asheville -- June 19, 2023: The Asheville Police Department, in conjunction with the Department of Juvenile Justice, has
charged a 16-year-old suspect in a gunshot during a Juneteenth festival in Pack Square Park.
According to a press release from the Asheville Police Department, on June 17, at approximately 8:51 p.m., APD officers responded to allegations of gunfire at a downtown festival near Court Plaza. When patrol officers arrived at the scene, two juveniles were discovered with gunshot wounds. Both were transported to Mission Hospital. One patient has been discharged, while the other remains in critical but stable condition.
The detectives arrested a juvenile who was charged with two counts of Felonious Assault with Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill Inflicting Serious Injury.
Officers and Forensic Technicians also recovered a 9mm pistol and a large quantity of tangible evidence from the park.
