News -- January 17, 2023: On Friday, a preliminary hearing is scheduled in relation to allegations
of child abuse against an elementary school

principal and teacher in South Carolina.

Rebecca Schroyer, the principal of Ocean Bay Elementary School, and Grace McColgan, a teacher, were both detained by
Horry County police in November.

Schroyer is accused of failing to report McColgan to the police, while McColgan is accused of inappropriate behavior toward
a minor.

The Horry County school district has been sued by at least one parent. Following requests from attorneys for the local prosecutor to resign, the South Carolina Attorney General's office has taken over the prosecution of the teacher and principal.
The school district is still paying Schroyer and McColgan. The teaching credential of McColgan has been temporarily revoked.

Editor's Note:* A criminal charge is an accusation, by law, a person accused of a crime is innocent until proven in a court of law.
