North Carolina --  April 5, 2022: In a Press Release yesterday, the North Carolinna Department of Enivironmental Quality,

(NCDAQ), announced an agreement with Chemours  to further limit GenX emissions conduct additional testing, and pay
the penalty assessed by DAQ last year as part of a settlement. Chemours will be required by the agreement to
limit GenX emissions from the Carbon Adsorber Unit in the Vinyl Ethers

North manufacturing area to no more than 1.0 pound per month on average between May and September 2022.
The Carbon Adsorber Unit, which is distinct from the onsite Thermal Oxidizer, is largely responsible for controlling
to 23.027 pounds per year.

Furthermore, Chemours is required to take additional emissions-reducing efforts this year, such as building new
process and emission control equipment. It must also adhere to a strict schedule of stack testing in order to determine how well the Carbon Adsorber Unit at Vinyl Ethers North controls emissions.

Chemours will also pay in full the $305,000 penalty levied by DAQ last year after it was discovered that Chemours was in violation of its air permit's rigorous GenX emission requirements. Chemours is required by this permit to limit its total GenX emissions to 23.027 pounds per year, calculated on a rolling 12-month basis. This level represents a 99 percent reduction in Generation X emissions in 2017.

Excess GenX emissions in March 2021 resulted in violation with the rolling 12-month limitations for the seven-month period from March to September 2021. Chemours received a written Notice of Violation and Notice of Recommendation for Enforcement from DAQ in October 2021. The Carbon Adsorber Unit was not properly operated or maintained for 26 days following its stack test on March 9, 2021, according to DAQ.

In response to DAQ's civil assessment, Chemours filed a Petition for a Contested Case Hearing. The agreement reached today addresses DAQ's civil penalty as well as Chemours' petition.
