Asheville, NC (Dec. 8, 2021): Asheville Police Department
Following an extensive six-month investigation by the Criminal Investigations Section of the Asheville Police Department, the Grand Jury granted True Bills of Indictment charging a Mars Hill man with three sexual offenses against a juvenile.
Robert Wayne Ledford, 42, was formally charged with active warrants at the Grand Jury hearing on Dec. 6 on:
· Felony Secretly Peeping Into A Room Occupied by Another Person while using a device capable of creating a photographic or video image (Class I Felony),
· Taking Indecent Liberties with a Child (Class F Felony)
· Secretly Peeping into a room occupied by another person
(Class A1 Misdemeanor)
APD detectives initially charged Ledford following an incident involving a juvenile victim back on June 16, 2021, at a business on River Hills Road. A juvenile victim reported that while trying on clothes in the fitting room, they noticed a hand under the door of the fitting room with a phone in it.
Detectives conducted an extensive investigation and identified Ledford as the suspect. They secured an arrest warrant for one count of secretly peeping into a room occupied by another person and arrested Ledford at his residence in Mars Hill; Madison County Sheriff’s Office aided in the arrest. Ledford was transferred to the custody of the Asheville Police Department and transported to the Buncombe County Detention Center where his warrant was served.
