Asheville -- Asheville Police posted an Awareness Message after 14 catalytic converters were stolen from parked cars last weekend.

Below is the message and information that may help keep your car safer.

Awareness message August 31, 2021

Over the weekend 14 catalytic converters were stolen from parked cars on Ridgefield Boulevard in West Asheville.

Unfortunately, this type of crime is increasing in both Asheville and across the nation. This car part is targeted because it contains precious metals and removal can take as little as a minute.
How do you know yours has been stolen? A loud roaring noise will occur when you start up your car. Please consider the following suggestions:
Park in your personal garage when possible or park in a well-lit area.
Etch your vehicle VIN on the converter.
Consider having it welded to your vehicle.
