Celebrate Easter at Lake Junaluska
Easter Sunrise Servce April 4, 2021 Lake Junaluska
Celebrate Easter with a powerful outdoor Sunrise Service at the Amphitheater below the Lake Junaluska Cross. Join us in person or online on Facebook for this special event. A brass quintet will provide music, and the speaker will be the Rev. Gina Gilland Campbell. Attendees are encouraged to dress warmly for cool mountain morning temperatures, and are asked to bring masks and observe social distancing. In the event of rain, the service will be held at Memorial Chapel. Check this website for any announcements about a possible change in location.
Rev. Gina Gilland Campbell
The Rev. Gina Gilland Campbell serves as adjunct faculty at Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, D.C. She teaches the practical aspects of worship and preaching, the practical aspects of pastoral leadership, and the formation of Christian leaders in an increasingly interfaith world.
Previously, as Canon Precentor of Washington National Cathedral, Rev. Campbell directed all services of worship in this national church. Canon Campbell broke barriers both ecumenically and in the interfaith community in her time at the Cathedral; inviting Muslims to pray their Friday Ju’muah prayers in the Cathedral nave, a service that drew international attention; and receiving national attention as the first non-Episcopalian to lead the Cathedral’s worship department and presiding over Sunday services of Holy Eucharist.
As adjunct faculty at the Center for Family Process in Bethesda, Maryland; Rev. Campbell brings a deep understanding of and appreciation for the family systems thinking of Murray Bowen and Edwin Friedman to her ministry; making her own unique contributions to thinking about the special challenges and unique possibilities of leading a congregation.
Rev. Campbell’s colleagues and students point to her gifts: clear, accessible preaching that speaks to the intersection of Scripture and daily life, one who comes alive teaching liturgy and unfailingly presses for deeper appreciations of our traditions even as we seek to make them live today, a gifted writer of public prayer, dynamic and energetic and at the same time a calm presence, a challenging and supportive teacher, a capable companion for spiritual exploration and discovery.
An ordained United Methodist clergywoman and member of the Rio Texas Annual Conference, Rev. Campbell received her education at Duke University and The Candler School of Theology of Emory University. Rev. Campbell and her husband, Arch Campbell, a broadcaster, live in Chevy Chase, Maryland.
