Officer Involved Shooting Mills River
Mills River -- Henderson County Sheriff's Office: On Sunday March 28th, 2021 at approximately 18:35hrs officers with the
Henderson County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to South Mills River Rd in the Mills River Community regarding a subject making suicidal threats. Upon arrival officers approached an outbuilding the suicidal suspect was reported to be in and attempted to make contact with him. While officers were attempting to communicate with the suspect, the suspect displayed a handgun in a threatening manner toward the officers. Officers discharged their weapons and upon disarming the suspect provided medical attention while awaiting arrival of Fire and EMS personnel. The suspect was airlifted to Mission Hospital via the MAMA helicopter and his condition is unknown at this time.
No officers were injured in this incident.
The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (NCSBI) has been contacted and will be conducting the investigation into the officer involved shooting. The officers involved have been placed on paid administrative leave as customary in an officer involved shooting.
No further information regarding this incident will be released at this time due to it being an active NCSBI investigation.
