NC Mortgage, Utility and Rent Relief (MURR) Program
Raleigh -- PRESS RELEASE -- NC Commerce: MURR Program Update - as of November 10, 2020:
Beginning Thursday, November 12 at 8:00am, full-service restaurants will be eligible to apply to the Mortgage, Utility and Rent Relief (MURR) Program.
Restaurants may only request direct payments for up to four months of rent or mortgage interest - restaurants will not be eligible for utility cost reimbursement.
Restaurants may request payments for up to $20,000 per location, for no more than two locations, and must employ fewer than 50 people at the location where they are seeking assistance.
Anyone who previously met our eligibility requirements and already submitted an application will not be negatively impacted by these new changes. Among other things, you will not lose your place in line.
We expect this program change will quickly lead to the exhaustion of available funds for the MURR program.
Before you first apply, review the questions first. We've posted the MURR application questions to expect, so you can prepare your answers and gather your documents before starting the actual online application.
Register for a free educational webinar to be held Thursday, November 12 at 9:00am.
The MURR program is for businesses or nonprofit organizations (nonprofits became eligible as of October 27); For citizens seeking help with rent or utility payments, Governor Cooper has announced the N.C. Housing Opportunities and Prevention of Evictions (HOPE) Program. For more information on the HOPE program, call 2-1-1 or visit nc211.org/hope to apply online.
If your organization has experienced extraordinary business disruption and not been able to open due to the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic, the new Mortgage, Utility and Rent Relief (MURR) Program may be able to offer assistance with some of your fixed costs.
To qualify to receive these relief funds, your organization must meet certain eligibility criteria.
We are accepting applications for this assistance on a first-come, first-served basis.
We can't guarantee your business will receive funding under this program. However, we will pay the maximum assistance for which a business is eligible, and will make those payments to as many qualifying businesses as we can until program funds are exhausted. If additional funds become available after the first round of funding is committed, the Program may reopen - but there is no guarantee we can reopen.
Our MURR team is available to assist you. Email your questions or comments to: murr@nccommerce.com.

MURR Program assistance is based on four months of rent or mortgage interest and utility costs at an eligible North Carolina business location during the April - August 2020 time period. The business must have paid these costs in order to receive relief payments from our program, and you'll be required to show evidence that these payments were in fact made.
The relief amount must not exceed $20,000 per business location, with a limit of up to two business locations per applicant (for a maximum of $40,000 per business).
The total amount of relief funding available for the MURR Program is $40 million. The applications are first come, first served and it is highly likely that some applications will not receive any relief.
