Asheville Man Charged with Hate Crime
Asheville -- Asheville Police Department Announcement -- On the morning of August 27 the Asheville Police Department (APD) received a report of a victim receiving threats containing anti-Semitic language over voicemail. Detectives with the Major Crimes Unit immediately began an investigation into the matter.
As a result of the investigation APD has charged Jeffrey Alan Gregory, 56, of Asheville with Ethnic Intimidation, Communicating Threats, and Cyberstalking. Gregory was taken into custody on August 27. He was released by the magistrate on a $6000 unsecured bond.
The APD maintains an active presence on the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Safe Streets Task Force. In addition to being one of the primary federal agencies tasked with investigating federal civil rights violations, the FBI and their task force officers regularly assist state and local law enforcement agencies with investigating crimes motivated by hate on the state and local level.
