HENDERSONVILLE, NC (May 20, 2020) – Mark your calendars! Opening day for the inaugural Hendersonville Farmers Market is Saturday, June 6.

The market will take place each Saturday, 8 a.m. until 1 p.m., at the Historic Train Depot on Maple Street until October 31, with two holiday markets slated for November 28 and December 5.

More than 25 vendors will be present at the market on opening day with products ranging from locally grown produce and meat, fresh coffee, baked goods, cut flowers, plants, artisan crafts and eco-friendly skincare products. Hola Community Arts will be serving up tamales, salsa and cupcakes – part of a season-long partnership with the farmers market to promote low-income food entrepreneurs.

Hendersonville Farmers Market has taken the SafeHendo pledge and will require vendors, staff and volunteers to wear face masks. Vendor booths will be spaced 10 feet apart, and everyone on the grounds will be asked to honor the Three Ws:
1) Wear a cloth face covering, 2) Wait six feet apart, and 3) Wash your hands often or use sanitizer.

As the COVID-19 outlook begins to look brighter, the market will gradually implement originally envisioned components such as live music, kids’ activities, and special events.

Hendersonville Farmers Market is a SNAP/EBT retailer and will match dollar-for-dollar any SNAP/EBT spending at the market using the Double Dollars program, led by the led by the Henderson County Partnership for Health's Committee for Activity and Nutrition, with added support from Appalachian Sustainable Agriculture Project. SNAP/EBT shoppers can swipe their EBT card at the information booth to retrieve tokens. The tokens can then be used as cash with individual vendors for eligible items.

Similarly, shoppers can purchase tokens using debit and credit cards. The tokens can in turn be used as cash with any vendor at the market.

The Hendersonville Farmers Market is coordinated and managed by the City of Hendersonville’s Downtown Program & Friends of Downtown Hendersonville organization and volunteers. “We’re looking forward to a great weekly farmers market! Creating connections between our local farmers and the residents of our area is needed now more than ever and we are excited about the impact the Hendersonville Farmers Market will have on those relationships.” said Downtown Economic Development Director Lew Holloway.
