Asheville -- City of Asheville: The bell atop of Asheville City Hall will ring at noon each day this week in observance of Public Service Recognition Week.
Since 1985, Public Service Recognition Week has been celebrated the first week of May to honor the people who serve our nation as federal, state, county and local government employees. This year’s observance runs from May 3-9.
“In these changing and uncertain times, I want to thank all of our City employees for taking on the challenge of public service,” said City Manager Debra Campbell. “As public servants we carry a unique responsibility, especially in times of crisis.”
During the State of Emergency posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, some City employees have been reassigned to new jobs, others have continued their work remotely while others — including in Fire, Police, Public Works and Water Resources — have continued to work on the front lines protecting and serving our community.
The City of Asheville employs 1,300 in the following departments: Capital Projects, City Manager’s Office, Community and Economic Development, Communication and Public Engagement, Development Services, Equity and Inclusion, Finance, Fire, Human Resources, Information Technology Services, Legal, Parks & Recreation, Planning and Urban Design, Police, Public Works, Sustainability, Transportation, and Water Resources.
