...HEAVY RAIN ACROSS THE NORTH CAROLINA MOUNTAINS TONIGHT...

.A strong low pressure system will bring widespread rainfall,
heavy at times, to the Southern Appalachians starting this
afternoon. The heaviest rain rates are expected this evening
through the overnight hours tonight, increasing the chance for
flash flooding. Showers and storms will exit to the east early
Monday morning.

Mars Hill, Marshall, Walnut, Allenstand, Hot Springs, Luck,
Swiss, Burnsville, Celo, Micaville, Ramseytown, Busick,
Spruce Pine, Poplar, Alarka, Almond, Bryson City, Luada, Wesser,
Waynesville, Waterville, Canton, Cruso, Cove Creek, Asheville,
Robbinsville, Stecoah, Cullowhee, Tuckasegee, Sylva, Franklin,

...FLASH FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT FROM THIS EVENING THROUGH MONDAY
MORNING...

The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg has issued

* Flash Flood Watch for a portion of western North Carolina,
including the following areas, Avery, Buncombe, Burke
Mountains, Caldwell Mountains, Graham, Haywood, Henderson,
Macon, Madison, McDowell Mountains, Mitchell, Northern
Jackson, Polk Mountains, Rutherford Mountains, Southern
Jackson, Swain, Transylvania, and Yancey.

* from this evening through Monday morning

* Multiple rounds of heavy rainfall are expected to move through
the area this afternoon through tonight. Rainfall totals of 2-5"
is expected, highest in the southern North Carolina mountains.

* Rapid rises above bankfull on streams and creeks may occur,
along with the threat of flooded roadways in embedded
thunderstorms or pockets of higher rainfall rates.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should Flash Flood Warnings be issued.

This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for western North Carolina.

.DAY ONE...Today and tonight.

Internet for more information about the following hazards.

Flash Flood Watch.

Scattered thunderstorms will be possible beginning later this
afternoon, bringing a threat of cloud-to-ground lightning. A few of
the storms could produce severe weather, mainly in the form of
damaging winds and hail of quarter size or larger. A warm front will
shift north of the region, and thunderstorms then become more
likely. A small tornado threat exists tonight into early Monday
morning, ahead of a cold front.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Monday through Saturday.

Flooding may persist on some creeks and streams into Monday. Winds
will remain gusty through Monday morning, calming in the afternoon
and evening.

.SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT...

Spotter activation may be needed. Please relay any information about
observed severe weather to the NWS while following all local, state,
and CDC guidelines.
