PRESS RELEASE: Earlier today Macon County Deputies responded to a location directly across from Cartoogechaye School after a stabbing was reported to 911. The whereabouts of a suspect was unknown at the time of the call and the details into the incident was limited.

Upon receiving the 911 call the dispatchers reported the incident to the MCSO School Resource Officer at Cartoogechaye Elementary. The SRO and school administrators immediately placed the school on “Lock Down” and did so as a precautionary measure.

Following interviews with witnesses by detectives we were able to identify the suspect as well as the location that the stabbing occurred. We determined that where the victim was located at the time of the 911 call and where the stabbing occurred was two different locations. Once this was verified, Sheriff Holland met with SRO Chris Owen and Mr. Arnold at Cartoogechaye Elementary and all security measures were lifted.”

The school lockdown lasted less than one hour.

The victim was transported by EMS to Angel Hospital. The stabbing actually occurred approximately a mile from the school at a residence. After the stabbing the victim and one other person drove to an area directly across from Cartoogechaye school and called 911.

Sheriff Holland concludes, “Release of information and the timing that it is released following an event at a school always seems to be a hot topic following these situations. Please know the safety and well being of your child and that of every person on any campus will always remain our absolute top priority. Providing you with accurate information as to why that event is occurring or has occurred is very important but it takes time to gather accurate information. You are notified as soon as we can let you know. We appreciate all for understanding.”

Macon County School Superintendent Dr. Chris Baldwin or Macon County Sheriff Robert Holland will provide additional information when it becomes appropriate to release.

The investigation into the incident continues...
