Asheville Police Dept: We're thrilled to share that SPO Debbie LeCroy and Officer Kora, our amazing therapy dog, were honored with the 2024 First Responder Paws Therapy Dog Award by FHE Health!
As part of this recognition, FHE Health generously donated $2,000 in Kora's honor to the First Responders Pack Foundation, an organization dedicated to training therapy dogs for first responders.
Kora's impact on our department and the community is immeasurable, and we couldn't be prouder of this dynamic duo. #avlnews

Buncombe County Parks & Recreation Dec 18, 2024: Thanks to MountainTrue, French Broad Riverkeeper, and an awesome group of volunteers for their partnership in helping clean up Alexander River Park!
Over two days, teams removed about 2,400 pounds of trash from the river, including this mass of piping that MountainTrue and Riverkeeper staff untangled from the trees.
And the clean-up efforts keep moving forward ā€“ today, crews were continuing the work at Ledges River Park.

Asheville Police: Milo is a black Labrador Retriever and our newest K9 officer, specializing in bomb detection. Labs like Milo are perfect for this important role due to their incredible sense of smell, which is estimated to be 10,000 to 100,000 times more sensitive than humans. Combine that with their friendly demeanor, high intelligence, and eagerness to work, and youā€™ve got the ideal partner for keeping our community safe.

Milo will be working alongside Senior Police Officer Liz Rice and other skilled APD officers to detect explosives in critical situations, helping ensure safety at events, public spaces, and beyond. Join us in welcoming K9 Milo to the team! #ashevillepolice #asheville #dogs
