Henderson County -- July 2024: Henderson County Government Grill safely this Fourth of July! As you enjoy the holiday

with family and friends, remember to follow these simple grilling safety tips:

1. Clean: Before you start, make sure your grill is clean. Scrape off any old food or grease to prevent flare-ups. Was work surfaces and utensils before and after cooking.

2. Keep It Cool: Keep meat, poultry, and seafood refrigerated until ready to grill. When transporting, keep at 40 degrees or below in an insulated cooler.

3. Separate: Use different plates and utensils for raw and cooked foods to avoid cross-contamination.

4. Check the Temperature: Use a food thermometer to make sure your meat is cooked to a safe temperature:
- Poultry: 165°F
- Beef, pork, lamb: 145°F (with a 3-minute rest)
- Ground meat: 160°F

5. Chill Leftovers: Put leftovers in the fridge within two hours to keep them safe to eat.
