WNC --  U.S. Forest Service - National Forests in North Carolina: Following the heavy rainfalls that helped contain and control the Rattlesnake Branch Fire, the Shining Rock Wilderness Area is now reopened to the public!

Thank you to the Southern Area Red Team and the nearly 180 firefighting personnel who traveled to Western North Carolina to help protect the forest and homes in our neighbors in the Town of Cruso.

While the site has reopened, crews are out cleaning trails impacted by the fire. Please use extra caution if you plan on visiting the wilderness while this work continues.
