Buncombe County -- November 25., 2024: Buncombe County Government News: Buncombe County's debris removal

efforts, managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) and contractor AshBritt, are helping our community recover while making a positive impact.

Residents have been asked to sort vegetative debrisโ€”including trees, logs, limbs, brush, and stumpsโ€”separately from other storm debris. Collected debris is transported to one of five temporarily permitted management sites, where itโ€™s processed for final use.

Hereโ€™s how fallen timber from the North Carolina Arboretum is being repurposed:

-80-100 tons processed into firewood for donation to four community churches.
-80-100 tons donated to local vendors for building and furniture materials.
-2-5 tons given to local artists for creative projects.

This collaborative effort, supported by FEMA, shows how recovery efforts can benefit our entire community.
