NCDOT: Dealing with Helene Impact, Preparing for First Winter Blast
WNC -- November 21, 2024: The N.C. Department of Transportation is still dealing with the impact of Helene, the first winter blast is coming.ย
ย
ย NCDOT is prepping for snow in the higher elevations of the mountains. Warnings of new hazards have appeared since the hurricane. Shoulders on some secondary roads and a few primary routes have lower or narrower shoulders than normal. Some damaged roads are limited to one lane of travel with temporary signals or other traffic control measures while reconstruction continues.
ย
A few reminders for those who must drive in winter weather:ย
โขย ย ย Stay in unless travel is absolutely necessary
โขย ย ย Drive at or below the posted speed limit
โขย ย ย Provide additional distance between your vehicle and the one in front
โขย ย ย Gradually slow down instead of slamming on brakes
โขย ย ย Remain at least 200 feet behind active snow plows
