Asheville Police Search for Suspect in Fatal Shooting
Asheville -- November 10, 2024: Press Release Asheville Police: Officers responded to a welfare check in the 100 block of South French Broad Avenue around 11 a.m. on November 9th.
Upon arrival, officers discovered Makala Lashea Harrison (10/09/1998) deceased under traumatic circumstances; next of kin has been notified.
Detectives and Forensic Technicians were called to the scene to investigate and are working with the N.C. Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to determine the circumstances surrounding her death. At this time, the cause of death appears to be the result of a gunshot wound.
Detectives were able to identify Darren Lamon Clayton (03/30/1990) as the shooter. Clayton is a 34-year-old black male standing 6’ tall and weighing 185 lbs. with black hair and brown eyes. He has a scar on his left forearm and a pierced left ear. Clayton should be considered armed and dangerous. If seen, do not approach, call 911 immediately.
This tragic incident marks the 11th homicide the Asheville Police Department has investigated in 2024. The Asheville Police Department remains committed to resolving this case and supporting the victim's family during this difficult time.
Detectives are urging anyone who knows Clayton’s whereabouts or has information related to this case to come forward.
