Asheville -- November 4, 2024: Following a gun discharge at an apartment complex on Friday night, Asheville Police

 detained a man. At this time only property damage has been reported.

On November 1st, at around 11:00 p.m., APD officers arrived at the Maple Crest Apartments on Lee Garden Lane to look into complaints of a gun discharge. The had left the site when the authorities arrived. Officers found 15-round casings from three different caliber firearms while roaming the area.

Officers recognized the suspect's car after looking through CCTV footage. On Sunday, November 3, at around 2:22 a.m., officers on Haywood Street engaged in proactive crime prevention activities when they came across a car with a fake license plate that matched the description from the gunshot on Friday night. Unharmed, the driver, Kelcey Derione Featherstone (born May 28, 1986), was apprehended. Featherstone had been caught in possession of drugs and a stolen handgun at the time of the arrest.

Featherstone was booked into the Buncombe County Detention Facility under a $25,000 (or $2,500 to a bondsman) secured bond issued by a magistrate.
