Asheville Police Investigating Pedestrian Fatality

Asheville -- August 15, 2024: Press Release: Asheville Police Department Patrol Officers are investigating a fatality

collision in which a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle on Sweeten Creek Road on August 8th. 

Asheville Police responded to the scene of a collision near the 4000 block of Sweeten Creek Road around 9:56 p.m. on August 8th. The preliminary investigation indicates a pedestrian, Joel Wayne Tucker (01/16/1948) was attempting to cross the road when struck by a  2014 Chevrolet Malibu traveling south on Sweeten Creek Road.

Tucker was transported to Mission Hospital with serious injuries, where he succumbed to his injuries the following day; next of kin has been notified.
