Asheville Police Charge Man with Assaulting a Pedestrian
Asheville -- March 10, 2024: In relation to the assault that left a pedestrian in critical condition on February 29, 2024
in West Asheville, the Asheville Police Department has charged a man.
Initially, on February 29, in the afternoon, APD Patrol Officers were called to investigate an assault on a pedestrian. The pedestrian was crossing Haywood Road close to Craven Street and tapped on the hood of a stopped vehicle. At that point, the passenger got out of the car and shoved the person to the ground. After the attack, the suspect got back into the car and drove away. The victim was sent to Mission Hospital for medical attention after suffering a serious head injury.
Following an investigation, detectives identified the suspect as Tyler Coenraads. Coenraads was charged with Assault Inflicting Serious Bodily Injury. Coenraads turned himself into the Buncombe County Detention Facility on March 8 and was booked under a $5,000 (or $500 to a bondsman) secured bond issued by the magistrate and has since been released.
