Man Faces Murder and Drug Charges in Swain County

Swain County -- Press Release: On 12/16/2023, the Swain County Sheriff's Office charged:

29-year-old Kyle Everett Huskey with Murder, Attempted First Degree Murder, Armed Robbery, Possession of Firearm by Felon, Conspiracy to Traffic Methamphetamine by possession and transportation, Trafficking Fentanyl, and Trafficking Methamphetamine. Huskey is currently in custody at the Swain County Detention Center under no bond.

The Swain County Sheriff’s Office also charged 24-year-old Chasity Marie Taylor with Trafficking Fentanyl and Trafficking Methamphetamine. She is currently in custody on a $800,000 secured bond.

These arrests stem from the investigation into the shooting that occurred earlier this week on Greasy Branch Road. Neither the deceased victim nor the surviving victim were from Swain County and are not residents of North Carolina.

Sheriff Cochran would like to thank the following agencies: the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigations, the Bureau of Indian Affairs, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, and the Drug Enforcement Administration for assisting with this ongoing investigation. Sheriff Cochran would also like to thank his staff, deputies, investigators, and everyone involved with the investigation, who are working tirelessly to ensure the safety of Swain County’s residents. There are no known threats to the community.
